Kung Fu Summer Camp: 7-14 Yrs - $165/week, $40 deposit/week
• Each camp must be paid in full one week prior.
• No refunds for camps. Transfers to other sessions will be allowed based on availability.

Kung Fu INTENSIVE Weekend Summer Camp: 7-14 Yrs - $200
• A deposit of $100 must be paid during registration, the balance will be due one week prior to Intensive.

What to Bring

• Lunch will be every day at noon. Bring your own well packed & insulated lunch. Snacks will be offered to all campers in the afternoon. We encourage campers to pack healthy lunches with lots of protein, fresh fruits & veggies. We will be working physically hard and want to make sure that we fuel our bodies properly.
• All campers need to have a water bottle with their name on it.
• Proper activity attire is essential to the campers participation in each camp.
• Each camper should bring their gear in a backpack or zippered bag.

Meridian Gate Camping Trip - Summer 2009

The theme of this year's Camp will be the Chinese Crossbow. We will look at how the Chinese Crossbow changed warfare and how the technology revolutionized the world.

This summer camp will not only teach campers Chinese history, but will also incorporate a large amount of physical training and physical history practice.

June 14-18th Session

Introduction to the warring states period. Learn the parts of a bow and crossbow. Explain the political and economical condition of China during the warring states period. Get material together to start constructing a miniaturized crossbow.

June 21-25th Session

Casting techniques. Introduce flint napping and how and why casting became so important. History of world in forging material and how it changed both warfare and the societies that used metal tools. Students will make the mechanism to fire the crossbow. They will also make the heads that will be used in the making of the bolts.

July 5-9th Session

Stock and arms: Students will be making the arms of the crossbow and stock: Students will be introduced to other types of bows and crossbows throughout history.

July 12-16th Session

Glue and sinew: Students will get to make glue and use sinew for the crossbow. History and talk about why these materials were used.

July 26-30th Session

Putting the pieces together. Campers will place each of the pieces together using sinew and glue to hold each piece in place. Students will learn about other inventions that were happening in China. Students will set up and make a tool to true bolts.

Aug 2-6th Session

Students will place bolt heads on their bolts then learn how to fletch them.

August 21 Meridian Gate will draw a name from the students that were in the class to take the crossbow home. The crossbow will be made inoperable.

June 26-27th Weekend Intensive Summer Camp

There will be 12 hours each day of training. Students will learn ying jing jin qi gong (this is an energy training qi gong). Students are expected to bring their own lunch. It will be broken into two sessions each day.

Morning and evening. Morning will be at Meridian Gate Kung fu Center. Evenings will be at City Park Fort Collins. All are welcome.
